The 2021 International Day of the Girl Child, themed “Digital Generation, Our Generation,” celebrated the importance of equipping girls with skills for the future. HACEY Health Initiative marked the day with activities that inspired and empowered secondary school girls across the nation.
A major highlight was an essay competition, where winners received laptops, cash prizes, and plaques, encouraging creativity and ambition. Career and mentoring trainings with organisations like Johnson & Johnson and Banwo & Ighodalo exposed girls to diverse professional paths. Safe space workshops on health and leadership were also organised in schools across the project states. By the end of the year, over 200,000 girls had been reached with information on leadership, health, and personal growth. Importantly, ten exceptional girls were inducted into the HACEY Girls’ Advisory Board, ensuring their voices continue shaping programs. The 2021 summit demonstrated how digital inclusion and mentorship can empower girls to thrive and lead change in their communities.
